Our History

East Central Minnesota Habitat for Humanity was incorporated as an Affiliate of Habitat International in 1994. We are Habitat for Humanity International’s affiliate for the Minnesota counties of Pine, Isanti, Chisago, Kanabec, and Mille Lacs.

Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit worldwide ecumenical Christian organization dedicated to eliminating poverty housing. HFHI was established in 1976 in Americus, Georgia. By September of 2005, HFHI had built the 200,000th house.

Our affiliate has constructed 26 homes. Two of the homes were built to be completely handicap accessible for partnering family members with severe disabilities.  We will complete a third handicap accessible during the 2010 season; by the 2010 season's end we will have constructed 28 homes.

Habitat homes are sold to those in need at no profit through no-interest loans.

We operate through our Volunteer Board of Directors, Volunteer Committees, and Executive Director. The committees are: Family Selection, Site Selection, Building, Family Support, Church Relations, Fund Raising/Public Relations and Volunteer Recruitment.
