Our History

East Central Minnesota

Habitat for Humanity was incorporated as an Affiliate of Habitat International in 1994. We are Habitat for Humanity International’s affiliate for the Minnesota counties of Pine, Isanti, Chisago, Kanabec, and Mille Lacs.

Habitat for Humanity International

is a nonprofit worldwide ecumenical Christian organization dedicated to eliminating poverty housing. HFHI was established in 1976 in Americus, Georgia. By June of 2013, HFHI had built the 600,000th house.

Our affiliate has constructed 44 homes. Three of the homes were built to be completely handicap accessible for partnering family members with severe disabilities. We completed a third completely handicap accessible home during the 2010 season; by the 2022 season's end we will have constructed 46 homes and rehabilitated two homes. In 2012 we added the "A Brush With Kindness " program to our affiliate's response to assist families in need in Chisago county with hopes of expanding it throughout East Central Minnesota.

Habitat homes are sold to those in need at no profit through affordable loans.

We operate through our Volunteer Board of Directors, Volunteer Committees, and an Executive Director. The committees are: Family Selection, Site Selection, Building, Family Support, Church Relations, Fund Raising/Public Relations and Volunteer Recruitment.
